Programed Car Race in the Algarve
Located near the city of Portimão (Algarve – Portugal), ‘Autodromo Internacional do Algarve’ is one of the most modern and multi-functional race circuits in the world. The whole project includes a Karting Circuit nearby, as well as an off-road circuit, a sports complex, a modern technology park and a top class tourist resort.
The ‘Autodromo Internacional do Algarve’ was built in just 8 months. Completed in October 2008, it received on December 2 the World Cup Superbike, Supersport and Superstock. In early 2009, several teams of Formula 1 tested the circuit. In April received a A1GP race and in May GT Open and PTCC races. Till the end of the year several other major events are scheduled for this circuit.
Le Mans Series – July 31 to August 2
Team spirit is the essence of the legendary race conceived in France. This event is a unique opportunity to witness a show of pure speed and endurance. GT cars (Aston Martin, Audi, Corvette, Ferrari, Lamborghini, Peugeot, Porsche) and Diesel versus Gasoline prototypes prepared at highest level, come together to produce a spectacular show.
Speed Open Championship Vodafone –August 28-30/ October 08-10
The fans will be able to watch different classes in action, such as Stocksport 1000cc and Stocksport 600. The racing for the national trophies will be non-stop emotion, whether in the PromoCup, wich is open to amateur drivers or the Classic Cycles Trophy.
Championship FIA-GT (GT3 and GT4) – September 11 - 13
Famous cars, like Aston Martin, Corvette, Ferrari, Lamborghini, Maserati and Porshe fill up a paddock totally open to public viewing, giving to the fans the opportunity to closely see the cars and the drivers, some of them ex-Formula 1 veterans. The Championship is open to private teams. On the circuit, the cars and drivers performance will provide an exciting show.
GP2 Series + FIA-GT World Championship (GT1 and GT2) - September 18-20
Regarded as the antechamber for Formula 1, the GP2 category is a mandatory pass for aspiring young drivers with their sigths set on the top level of auto sports. Each event as two races in which the first eight placements of the first race leave in reverse order in the second one. GP2 is the most competitive category in Europe. Cars are much the same for all, so it’s the drivers that make the difference. There will compete 26 drivers and 13 teams.
Algarve Historic Festival – October 16-18
Several races with historic cars that competed in the most emblematic races of motorsport world, such as the Formula 1 of the 1970’s and other vintage racing cars, prototypes, touring cars of the 20’s, 50’s and 60’s among many others.
Superbike World Championship – October 23-25
This is a spectacular and thrilling event that will have the record number of 32 riders. In the Supersport category the Portuguese people will be able to cheer the “house” team Parkalgar.
GT + PTCC Spain Championship - November 6-8
This Championship originated in Spain and holds races in Portugal and Spain only, follows the principles oh others GT Championships. The event lines up two seater sport cars for two races of 200 kms each.
The PTCC formula of success lies in the blueprint of FIA’s WTCC, the World Touring Car Championship, but with more relaxed technical regulations.
